Advantages of an electric vehicle

The price of an electric car remains almost on par with that of a conventional vehicle, they share almost all of their comfort, state-of-the-art technology, safety and transportation features; However, according to figures from the Chamber of the Automotive Industry, from January to July 2021, only 130 electric units have been sold throughout Ecuador.

Gino Barrezueta, general manager of China Motors, explains that this type of vehicle is in the introductory phase in the automotive market. “In our case, we sacrifice the profit margin to be able to position this type of vehicle in order to start selling volume soon, since in a maximum of ten years their sales will be massive, it is something irreversible,” said the executive.

Advantages of an electric vehicle

According to specialists, the average driver in Ecuador is used to the (powerful) sound of a combustion engine. However. electric units have:

A powerful electric motor, it does not emit sound and you do not have to change oils, filters, etc.; or perform any type of maintenance.

– The technical review is limited to brakes, steering, etc.: reducing costs and with intervals of at least 10,000 km

– Some models can be charged in a few hours with a 220 V connection. The electrical sheet will reflect a consumption similar to that of an air conditioner.

-They have autonomy of up to 320 km.

-They are exempt from the import tariff, special consumption tax (ICE) and 12% VAT.

According to data from the Association of Automotive Companies of Ecuador (Aeade), in the country there are brands that register imports of electric vehicles: Dayang, Kia BYD, Renault, BMW, Zedriv, among others. Transportation is one of the niches in which efforts are being made to support the transition to the electrical system. The Chinese manufacturer BYD has taken the initiative in this segment, where it has sold 20 buses that already circulate in Guayaquil and is placing taxis.
