The results of research published on the portal prove that women are able to tell whether a man is married or single based on the smell of a man. Testosterone levels and hormonal changes can affect the odor you emit.
Research on the human sense of smell. Women sense busy men
The study involved 82 heterosexual women aged 18 to 35. Their task was to assess, based on the smell, whether a given person is single or in a relationship. The women making the assessment were both single and married.
The women received men’s T-shirts, which they wore for 24 hours. They were not allowed to use any cleansers, deodorants or perfumes. The researchers took the material from underneath and sealed it in containers, which they then showed to the women participating in the study. The women also received a picture of the man. Based on the photo and material cut from the men’s armpits, they were to assess his attractiveness and masculinity.
The results of the study leave no doubts. Women have a nose
Most of the surveyed women assessed the faces of singles slightly more favorably than the faces of men in a relationship. Scientists that the results of the study are consistent with previous assumptions.
Consistent with previous research showing that single men and those in relationships can be distinguished by their testosterone levels. The higher the testosterone level, the stronger the smell and that the more intense (body odors) are rated as more masculine scents.
Single men have a higher level of testosterone, which is felt by women. However, researchers point out that the smell of a single man may also be associated with a different lifestyle than in the case of men in relationships.
