One of Bob Marley’s grandsons dies at 31



“Jo” Mersa Marley, musician and grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley (1945-1981), died in Miami this Tuesday at the age of 31, reported media outlets. The Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, wrote on social networks a message of condolence for the death of Joseph Mersa Marley in which he wishes him to find “eternal peace”.

“I am deeply saddened by the news that artist Joseph Marley, son of reggae star Stephen Marley and grandson of reggae superstar Bob Marley, has died,” he added in the text, accompanied by a performance by the artist.

At the moment, the cause of the death of the young man, son of Stephen Marley, one of the eleven children of the “reggae” legend, is officially unknown. According to the Florida station WZPP Radio, it was the result of a asthma attack. Other media say that he was found dead inside his car.

Bob Marley’s grandson was born in Jamaican in 1991, ten years after the death of his grandfather, but since he was 11 years old he lived in Miami, where he studied to be a sound engineer, according to Rolling Stone magazine. His father, who is now 50 years old, introduced him to the world of music as a child.

His first song, “My Girl” (2010), was a collaboration with his cousin Daniel Baambaata Marley, followed by the albums “Comfortable” (2014) and “Eternal” (2021). Bob Marleywho had eleven children as a result of his relationships with seven women, died in Miami in 1981, with 36 years because of cancer and was buried in Jamaica with his guitar.
