‘Avatar 2’, now what? These are the new movies that are coming

If you’ve already gone to the movies and you’ve been wanting more ‘Avatar’, you should know that you’re in luck. No, you won’t have to wait another 13 years to see a new movie from the world of Pandora, just one. In 2019, Disney announced that it was preparing four films in the saga; At the time, the release date of ‘Avatar 2’ was set at 2021, finally moving to 2022.

Of course, there are three other James Cameron films, of which we know even their titles -provisional, yes-. The schedule for the upcoming Avatar movies is set as follows:

  • Avatar 3 (The Seed Bearer): December 20, 2024.
  • Avatar 4 (The Tulkun Rider): December 18, 2026.
  • Avatar 5 (The Quest for Eywa): December 22, 2028.

In September 2020, James Cameron acknowledged that Avatar 3 was “95%” shot, a percentage similar to that given by actor Sam Worthington on ‘The Tonight Show’ (“around 80 or 90%”). In July 2022, the director told ‘Empire’ that he might not direct the fourth and fifth installments, whose release dates could depend on “market forces”.

The third and fourth “have already been filmed”

At laSexta, we have been able to speak with the digital composer Aitor Echeveste, who tells us that the third and fourth installments of the saga “have already been filmed.” “All the material is going into post-production,” he adds.

In addition, he explains that part of the delay of ‘Avatar 2’ has come because, at the same time, they were working on these other films. “The third film is already in production, but it will take two years if it is not delayed“says the composer.
