Ideal lubricants for light vehicles

The engine has many components that are in motion, which causes the wear of parts, the job of the lubricant is to protect these parts from deterioration, reducing the temperature and avoiding overheating and damage. That is why it is important to comply with the change intervals recommended by the distributor, which generally suggests an oil change after 5,000 kilometers; For their part, developers use new components whose resistance is increasing, thus reducing the consumption of raw materials and the generation of hazardous waste.

Lubricant Categories

There are several types of car oils that differ in technical compositions, Exxon Mobil highlights the following categories:

• Monogrades: products that have only one degree of viscosity.

• Multigrades: with extremes of viscosity to guarantee good performance at different temperatures, in this category are semi-synthetics and full synthetics. Viscosity level and brand quality

There are international organizations that regulate the lubricant industry, these regulations must be printed on the labels, being the most relevant, but not the only ones.

• SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)

Regulates lubricants by a number that indicates the degree of viscosity, according to Table J300, the higher the number, the more viscous.

• API (American Petroleum Institute)

It regulates lubricants by means of a letter that indicates the application and quality level. For example, the S identifies the application in gasoline engines.

“Modern engines require high-quality lubricants to function, so there is less wear, savings and better control,” says Noemí Rehpani, Conauto product-lubricant manager.

What role does the oil filter play?

The oils drag dirt from the chambers through which they pass, thanks to the detergent they contain. The filter captures all these impurities so that the oil does not circulate dirty, producing additional scratches and wear; experts recommend its change every 5,000 kilometers.
