Although they look inconspicuous, car wipers often determine our safety. They are particularly important especially during heavy rain or snow, as they ensure that nothing restricts our visibility. What to do when they start to smear water?

Before you order new wipers. Sometimes you just need to wipe them

In Poland we have a real white winter. During this period, we should take care not only of proper tires and regular snow removal, but also of efficient wipers. It is thanks to them that even when it snows, nothing will limit our visibility. What to do when they don’t work well and leave streaks? The first step is trivially simple. Sometimes it is the fault of impurities or ice crystals on their surface. In this case, it is enough to wipe them thoroughly.

A simple trick for broken wipers. It’s not always the feathers’ fault

If the problem persists after replacing the pens, the problem most likely lies elsewhere. Most often, the fault lies in the incorrect setting of the wiper arm, which prevents the rubber from moving along the glass at the right angle. How to fix it?

1. Remove the wiper
2. At the very top of the arm, between the curved piece, insert a screwdriver or wrench.
3. Like a crane, slightly pull or tilt the arm in the opposite direction to where it is bent. Do it carefully and slowly so as not to damage it. Finally, the arm should adhere to the glass at a right angle, not at a slight slant.

Why does the arm deform? You can get a ticket for faulty wipers

There can be several reasons for the deformation of the arm. The most common of them is simply its wear, which makes it no longer adhere perfectly to the glass. It is important that the wipers are always fully operational – primarily for the sake of your and other road users’ safety, as well as the fact that if they do not work, you can receive – up to PLN 200.
