Abba will revive on the stages of the Teatro Sánchez Aguilar; the musical ‘Mamma Mia!’

The memorable songs of the ABBA group will spread nostalgia and joy to the interiors of the main hall of the Sanchez Aguilar Theater because here it will premiere Mamma Mia! The famous Broadway musical comes to the Ecuadorian coast under the direction of Carlos Gonzalez and the production of Daniela Cabezas.

“What we want to capture on the Guayaquil stage is a show with the quality that could be seen on any other stage in the world. The details of the scenery, the choreography, the props, the singers, dancers and others, bear a lot of similarity to what is seen to be Mamma Mia! in other scenarios, in other cultural capitals”, González mentions in an interview with this newspaper.

The leading cast is made up of Rosario Pallares, Alexandra Cabanilla, Noralma Reeves, Magda Salinas, Dayana Sengés, José Ignacio de Vries, Fabo Doja, Álex Cisneros and Áxel Zöller. But on stage there are more than 27 artists, including the musicians who play live each of the pieces that will be performed in Spanish and English.

Mamma Mia! presents the story of Sophie, a dreamy and optimistic young woman who lives with her mother Donna on an exotic Greek island. One day she wakes up with two big dreams: marrying her boyfriend in a perfect wedding and walking down the aisle with her father. However, she does not know who she is, rummaging through her mother’s papers she discovers that there are three possible fathers: Sam, Bill and Harry. Secretly from her mother, she invites the three of them to the wedding, convinced that she will recognize her real father when she sees him, but this is not necessarily the case.

The director describes the musical as a piece that makes value life, family and friends. “Tell a story that fills your heart and brightens your spirit”mentions.

“Sophie and I are quite alike”says the actress Rosario Pallareswho plays Sophie in the play. “She is dreamy, laid back, determined, knows what she wants and does what she has to do to get it. At times I feel like I’m not acting because it’s something Sophie would do, just like me.” adds Pallares.

It’s exciting for her to give voice to songs that she has grown up with, but with which she also experiences a vocal challenge.

One of Sophie’s possible parents is personified by the actor Fabo Doja, which describes his character as fun, happy and dreamy. “This character is fearless, he still has that joviality, he doesn’t want to be left behind as a family man. The actor from Guayaquil expresses that it is special to work with a cast that includes new faces and experienced artists, since everything is part of constant learning. “It is a treat to be able to work with such professional people, with people who love what they do, with people who want to build a better country through culture.
