the trikitilari Kepa Junkera Has published “Berpiztu”a book in which more than 40 artists have graphically captured their musical career, from the beginning until December 2018, when he disappeared from the stage due to a severe stroke.

The work was presented this Monday at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, where, together with Kepa, family, friends, some of the artists who have collaborated on the work, as well as the mayor of the Biscayan capital, Juan Mari Aburto, the director of the Museum, Miguel Zugaza, the painter Alberto Palomera and the bertsolari Xabier Amuriza. “The book is the retrospective of an exceptional musician, by the hand of Joseba Martín and in which each album and each song is a rebirth”, explained Zugaza.

Joseba Martín, the journalist who has documented each of his albums, has qualified that the book “covers Kepa’s entire musical career, up to a day like today four years ago. Artists he admires, who have worked on works inspired by him and his music”.

In total, there are more than 400 creations that, according to Zugaza, portray him perfectly. “They look like Kepa. The book is the most reliable portrait of him, a book about a musician written from the plastic arts”, he has qualified.

In total there are 250 pages in which there are photographs of Junkera, texts, anecdotes told by him and those close to him, his works in graphic format, as well as their scores.

The painter Alberto Palomera has given voice to the artist’s words, in a text written by him, full of irony, and in which he has had words of gratitude for family, friends and artists but, above all, for Bilbao and his treasures, such as the cakes called “carolinas”, and for the neighborhood where he was born and raised, Rekalde.

The book presented today will be on sale this week at the Durango book fair.

Last September, EITB Media offered the preview of the documentary “Kepa Junkera. Berpiztu” in the Zine Maldia:
