Documentary about the opioid crisis wins the Golden Lion at the Venice Mostra 2022

This Saturday the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival granted his golden lion to the documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, of Laura Poitras. In this way, it is the second documentary in the history of the festival that receives the highest award of the cinephile meeting, the first was in 2013 with Sacral Graof Gianfranco Rosi.

The audiovisual narrates the opioid crisis in the United States, that is, the increase in deaths due to drug overdose or deaths associated with the misuse of painkillers. The documentary explores the career of the photographer nan goldin and the fall of the Sackler family. He also makes a parallel between the deaths currently caused by opioids and those caused by AIDS in the eighties.

The president of the jury of this edition, Julianne Moore, was very excited when announcing the Poitras film award.

The Silver Lion-Grand Prize of the Jury was for Saint Omerfrom the French Alice Diop, which recounts a terrible true event, an infanticide committed in 2013 by a Senegalese woman. This film also won the award for the best debut film at the festival.

The Volpi Cup for best actress, as planned, went to cate blanchett for her spectacular portrayal of a conductor in ART, and the one for best actor went to Colin Farrelfor his abandoned friend of The Bhansees of Inisherin. This film also won the best script for its director, the British Martin McDonagh.

The award for best director went to the Italian Luca Guadagnino for the film adaptation of Bones and Alla story of love and cannibalism starring Timotee Chalamet and Taylor Russell, who won the Marcello Mastroianni at the best young performer

The Special Jury Prize went to No Bearsa pro-freedom plea by Iranian Jafar Panahi, imprisoned for his opposition to his country’s regime. (YO)
