The American actress Glenn Close, who was expected this week in Donostia-San Sebastián to preside over the Zinemaldia jury, has canceled her visit to the San Sebastian capital due to a “family emergency”.
The San Sebastian International Film Festival (SSIFF) has reported, in a statement, that Close will not attend this 70th edition of the competition, which begins on Friday, and will not be able to preside over the official jury, as planned.
This responsibility will fall on the Argentine producer Matias Mosteirin, who will lead a jury also made up of casting director and filmmaker Antoinette Boulat (France); the director and screenwriter Tea Lindeburg (Denmark); the writer and journalist Rosa Montero (Spain); filmmaker and visual artist Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese (Lesotho); and the director and screenwriter Hlynur Pálmason (Iceland).
Glenn Close, who last week expressed his “enthusiasm” on social networks to chair the Zinemaldia jury, has sent a message to the Festival organization to communicate his resignation.
“I deeply regret not being able to participate in the Festival, since there has been a family emergency for which I have to stay home. I apologize to the Festival, the jury, the filmmakers, the Donostia Awards and the Festival audience, for not being able to be there to celebrate it with all of you”, explained the actress.
