We already know the seven cities of United Kingdom candidates to host the great European song festival, a Eurovision scarred by war on Ukrainian soil. Given the impossibility of Ukraine to celebrate the contest due to the invasion of Putin’s Russia, the United Kingdom, as second classified in the last festival, will be in charge of hosting the event.
This Friday, the BBC has shared the seven cities in which the festival could take place, all of them well known. However, none of those cities is London.
The list of candidate cities is as follows:
- glasgow
- Manchester
- Liverpool
- birmingham
- newcastle
- leeds
- Sheffield
United Kingdom, with Sam Ryder and his song ‘Space man’, was the second classified country after ‘Stefania’, by the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra, in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Italy. Some 20 UK cities expressed interest to host the 2023 contest. After knowing the list of cities, the BBC’s content director, Kate Phillips, thanked “all the cities and regions that submitted their offers to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year We have seven fantastic cities that we will take to the next round.”
“Congratulations to Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. It is exciting to see so much on offer from across the UK,” it added. “We are committed to delivering a truly unique song contest that celebrates the wonderful Ukraine and champions British music and creativity in all its diversity.”
Eurovision requires that the chosen city have facilities for about 10,000 spectators, an adequate press center, access to international airports and ample hotel rooms. The city that will finally host the event will be released in the fall by the BBC and the organizers of Eurovision.
