The Court of First Instance of San Juan filed this Thursday the case against Ricky Martin, after the plaintiff, his nephew Dennis Yadiel Sánchez, asked to leave without effect the order of protection issued against the singer.
The artist’s representative in Puerto Rico, Helga García, from the firm Perfect Partners, confirmed the court’s decision. Against the singer weighed a protection order based on Law 54, which protects victims of domestic violence, which had been granted ex parte on July 2 after the demand of his nephew.
In a statement, the artist’s legal team explained that the case was filed “at the request of the plaintiff, who accompanied by his lawyer, Jessica Bernal, expressed his intention to annul the order that he himself requested”.
Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, 21, alleged at the time that he had a romantic relationship with Ricky Martin for seven months and that, after the breakup, his uncle intimidated him and approached his home on several occasions.
“Ricky Martin and his legal team insisted that there was no truth to the allegations made against him, confidence that was confirmed by the result of today’s hearing”added the note.
After the protection order was issued, the interpreter of great musical successes such as ‘La copa de la vida’, ‘La mordidita’ and ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ He assured on social networks that his nephew’s allegations were “totally false” and that he would face the judicial process “with the responsibility” that characterizes him.
The singer participated in today’s hearing virtually and was represented by lawyers Joaquín Monserrate Matienzo, Carmelo Dávila and Harry Mansanet. Lawyer Marcos Rivera explained at the gates of the court that this first order issued against the singer was “provisional” and its duration depended on today’s audience, when Ricky Martin’s version was heard.
The mediatic case attracted numerous journalists, local and foreign, who stood guard before the court despite the inclement rain, but not the artist’s followers. Last week, information also emerged in some media that pointed to a possible sentence of up to 50 years in prison against the singer in case he was found guilty of incest.
In this regard, his legal team reiterated today in the statement that “There were a lot of sensational headlines on this issue that just didn’t correspond to the facts at all.”
“This was always a purely civil matter and, as the Court has just concluded, was nothing more than unfortunate claims by a citizen. We are happy that our client saw that justice was served and can now continue with his life and career.“, emphasized the lawyers.
Ricky Martin will perform this Friday and Saturday in concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Hollywood Bowl. It is worth mentioning that Dennis Yadiel Sánchez denounced last Tuesday having received calls with death threats if he spoke at the hearing, facts that are under police investigation and of which no further details have emerged.
Enrique Martín Morales, better known as Ricky Martin, has been married since 2017 to the artist of Syrian origin Jwan Yosef and has four children.
