Education has decided to increase the places allocated to teachers, after announcing this week its intention to convene a total of 6,350 places in the educational professional field.

The Department of Education of the Basque Government has “defined” its proposal for public job offers (OPE) for this year and has decided to increase the number of places for teachers by 1,008, which now reach 5365.
This was communicated this Friday by those responsible for the Department of Jokin Bildarratz to the unions at a meeting of the Sectorial Table of civil servant teachers, the second this week after the one held on Monday.
In the meeting four days ago, Education announced its intention to convene this year 6350 seatsa figure that remains after this Friday’s meeting, although the report varies by category.
This change has been possible because in the previous proposal they appeared unassigned 1008 places corresponding to the replacement rate of this yearwhich have now been distributed in the different teaching bodies, sources of Education have explained.
Thus, the places for these professionals pass from 4357 to 5365 and are distributed as follows: 2,044 for teachers, 2,777 for Secondary school teachers and 262 for vocational training, in addition to 181 for specialists in unique sectors, 44 for language schools, 26 for music and performing arts, and 31 for teachers of plastic arts and design.
The vast majority of these positions, 3,407, will be to consolidate temporary staff. Specifically, 2,697 in the merit contest modality and 710 through a non-eliminatory opposition contest. The remaining 1812 will be decided through an ordinary opposition.
In addition, the Department intends to announce another 985 positions for labor personnel (special education and cooking and cleaning), bringing the total number of job offers for this year to 6,350 positions. At this Friday’s meeting the number of posts allocated to these two categories has not changed.
The new distribution does not satisfy ELA, which believes that the number of places reserved for stabilization “leaves out of the consolidation nearly two-thirds of the 13,000 temporary teachers“, with which “the guidelines given by Europe to reduce temporary employment to 8% will not be met”, something for which “at least” one OPE with 10,000 positions is demanding.
