35.8% of the Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) registered last year was represented by fruits, while vegetables reached 11.1%, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
The ministry pointed out that among the fruits that contributed the most to the VBP, blueberries, grapes, bananas, avocados, tangerines, mangoes, oranges and pineapples stood out; while in terms of vegetables, asparagus, onion, corn, corn, tomato, artichoke, peas, squash, among others, were mentioned.
Midagri highlighted that in the basket of non-traditional products, fruit and vegetable exports reached sales of US$963 million (71% of non-traditional agro-exports) in the first two months of the year, which represented an increase of 12.3 % compared to the same period last year.
The ten main destination countries for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, Holland, Hong Kong, China, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Canada and Colombia. This group of countries accounted for 77% of the total FOB value exported in the study period.
It should be remembered that since 2017, from April 24 to 30 of each year, the National Fruit and Vegetable Week is celebrated, with the aim of promoting the consumption of these agri-foods within the framework of a healthy diet, and at the same time to stimulate the domestic market for fruits and vegetables, mainly to the benefit of family farming producers.
