Garikoitz Nazabalpresident of EHNE Gipuzkoa, explained to eitb.eus that “cattle farmers have the feeling that the institutions only remember them on May Day and Artzain Eguna”.
The farmers of Aralar and the agricultural and livestock unions ENBA and EHNE have announced that they will not attend this Sunday the official act of opening of the Aralar pasturesalleging that it is a “theater” and because mountain livestock “beyond a holiday, it must be protected all year round”.
Nazabal has declared that territorial management is necessary throughout the year. In this sense, he has harshly criticized the management of the Commonwealth of Enirio-Aralar and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
In this regard, the representative of EHNE has assured that ranchers and shepherds are trapped in the middle of the “rifirrafes” between institutions. Thus, on many occasions the necessary investments are left halfway or are simply not carried out, he added. In that sense, he has said that both institutions “pass the ball” to each other.
Asked about the state of the tracks in Aralar, Nazabal has pointed out that they have built only “a couple of stretches, and not very good ones”. In addition, he has denounced the state and “poor” maintenance of the roads in operation.
The union representative has recalled the controversy that aroused the construction of these tracks, since environmental associations positioned themselves against the infrastructure. “It seemed that a highway was going to be built, when they are tracks three meters wide,” he has settled.
In Nazabal’s words, “ecopopulist discourses present ranchers as mere exploiters of nature, when they are not, quite the opposite.” In this sense, he has accused the institutions of being subject to these ecopopulist discourses.
The president of EHNE Gipuzkoa has made it clear that professionals in the sector are “burnt” with the situation. For this reason, they met in an assembly and decided to stand up.
On the other hand, he has been concerned with the future of the sector, since with these “grueling” conditions It is difficult for young people to take over, as well as for the most veteran to continue in the profession.
