Both unions consider that the Artzain Eguna de Ordizia (Gipuzkoa) that is being held today “contributes to improving the image of the primary sector and promoting its activity”, although they warn that shepherds “need protection all year round”.
On the occasion of the celebration this Wednesday of the Artzain Eguna in Ordizia (Gipuzkoa), the agrarian unions EHNE and ENBA they wanted to claim the needs of the primary sector as well as the “protection” that shepherds need “throughout the year”. Thus, “beyond the party”, they have denounced “the neglect” of the Commonwealth regarding the mountains of Aralar and the “precarious situation” of the shepherds.
In a joint statement, ENBA and EHNE have shown their support for festivals such as today’s, as they help improve the image of the primary sector and promote its activity, and have claimed the “dignity” of the mountain grazing practiced, especially the of the shepherds and ranchers of Aralar. Given this, they have criticized the “neglect and indifference” of the Commonwealth of Enirio-Aralar in the mountains of the area. As reported, “investments in shacks for shepherds who live and work in the mountains, clearing, and road infrastructure are essential.”
They have also expressed the “precarious situation” experienced by shepherds milk producers for Idiazabal cheese, whose production costs “have increased by 10-12%” but “the compensation received has hardly been touched”. Thus, they have warned that “the dairies have frozen their price or have raised it by only 2%”.
