The Sestao ACB returns to activity this Wednesday after stopping due to the cost of electricity

Six days of work and four days of rest have been scheduled, for three shifts, and the objective continues to be to produce 45,000 tons per month in order to gradually increase production.

The Bizkaia Compact Steelworks (CBA)located in Sestao (Bizkaia), will start again the 23 of March its production after remaining stopped since the 9th of this month due to the high cost of electricity, according to ArcelorMittal sources.

The same sources have pointed out that “some improvement” of electricity prices has led them to decide to return to activity at the Biscayan steelworks, which will continue with the same work schedule it had before the shutdown.

Specifically, they are planned six days of work and four offthree shifts and the goal remains to produce 45,000 tons per month to gradually increase production.

The Sestao plant had started its activity on March 3 after being stopped since December 7, a time it took advantage of to proceed with the entire remodeling of casting line number two, with the objective precisely of trying to mitigate the impact of the high energy cost of electricity and gas.

According to the work calendar, the plant should have returned to production, after the four days of rest, on March 13, but the rise in prices led it not to do so.

On the other hand, the plant ArcelorMittal Olaberria (Gipuzkoa) continues to work “intermittently” and is taking advantage of the time slots in which the electricity cost is somewhat lower.
