The peasant community of Tumilaca, Pocata, Coscore and Tala rejected the act signed in the high-level commission, in which the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the mining company Southern Peru Copper (SPCC) and the community participated. The document agreed to lift the force measure in the Viña Blanca water reservoir and the Cuajone mine railway, among others.
In this sense, the community, through a statement, points out that during the high-level meeting, SPCC has demonstrated a “tax position.” They also qualify as a “farce” all the agreements reached in the session.
“During the meeting, our peasant community was notified of a habeas corpus lawsuit and other legal proceedings by the company,” they specify.
Therefore, they demand that in order to resume the dialogue process, “all the legal processes and lawsuits initiated against the community members be stopped and archived.”
Finally, they ratify their intention to dialogue, as long as it is carried out with “absolute transparency and equality of conditions” and the central government participates as moderator and the highest representative of the mining company.
