Imports in the first two months of 2022 reached US$ 9,029 million, which means a growth of 25.8% in relation to the same period of 2021, in addition, it is the highest figure in the last 20 years, reported the Center of Global Economy and Business Research of the Association of Exporters CIEN-ADEX.

According to the business association, the record amount was driven mainly by higher import prices for industrial supplies, food and fuel.

Sectors with higher imports

The items that stood out were the metalworking sector with US$ 2,721 million, reflecting an increase of 4.8% and a share of 30.1% of the total. It was followed by the chemical category (US$ 1,885 million) with an increase of 39.9% and concentrating 20.9%, and hydrocarbons (US$ 1,322 million).

Other sectors were agriculture (US$1,000 million), iron and steel (US$689,800,000), textiles (US$307,800,000), non-metallic mining (US$216,100,000), clothing (US$137,800,000). , wood (US$ 106,400,000), mining (US$ 40,900,000), fishing (US$ 41,500,000) and miscellaneous (US$ 560,100,000).

Main imported products

The most important products in the first two months of 2022 by sector were diesel 2 (US$ 333,700,000) in hydrocarbons, cell phones (US$ 268,900,000) in metalworking, hard yellow corn (US$ 164,800,000) in agriculture, vaccines (US$ 110,700,000) in chemicals and iron scrap (US$ 62,700,000) in iron and steel, among others.

The country’s main supplier was China (US$ 2,803 million), highlighting cell phones. It was followed by the US (US$1,896 million), Brazil (US$655,900,000), Argentina (US$357,100,000), Mexico (US$278,700,000), among others.

Finally, ADEX indicates that imports from most continents increased with the exception of Oceania, highlighting Africa with the greatest dynamism (51.4%), while Asia remained the main supplier region, concentrating 43.4% of the total. .
