Piura among the 4 departments that receive the highest income from canon and mining royalties

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance – MEF, four departments at the national level, including Piura, concentrate 60% of the resources transferred by canon, surcharge and mining royalties between 2008 and 2021, a period in which the income of the regions for these concepts reached S/ 89,000 million; This was reported by the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society – ComexPerú.

According to this data, Cusco was the department that received the largest transfers for the three concepts in that period, with a total of 29%; followed by Áncash, with 14.7%; Arequipa, 10.2%; and Piura, with 6.2% of the total amount transferred.

The Piura region, considered for decades as a region predominantly agricultural and fishingchanged markedly since 2005 with the Bayóvar phosphate exploitation by the Miski Mayo mining company, which gave life to the first non-metallic mining project that obtained a social license and allowed it to start operations in July 2010 in order to obtain an annual production of 3.96 million tons of phosphate concentrates .

According to official reports, from 2005 to February 2022, the company is contributing the amount of 648.2 million soles to the national treasury. It was specified that, of the contribution of mining royalties, 80%, which represents a total of 245.4 million soles, go to the Social Fund of the Bayóvar Integral Project – FOSPIBAY; and the remaining 20% ​​(61.4 million soles) go to the Sechura Social Trust.
