The Comptroller summons the MEF and Minem before Petroperú’s rating downgrade

After Standard & Poor’s (S&P), as a result of the lack of financial transparency and the weakening of governance, lowered its long-term rating on Petroperú from BBB- to BB+, a step where junk bonds are located, the Comptroller General of the Republic announced that it has convened the heads of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (FEM), Oscar Graham and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Carlos Palacios, who are part of the shareholders’ meeting of the state company.

“We are very concerned about the things that are happening in Petroperú regarding the financial audit and that the risk rating agencies have lowered the rating of the bonds that have been issued, that can potentially cost the country many millions of dollars and, That is why I have summoned the two ministers who are the owners of Petroperú, who are present at the general shareholders’ meeting, who are from the MEF and mine to have a work meeting, to see what is happening with the company”, said Comptroller Nelson Shack at a press conference from Junín.

The comptroller also recalled that, a few days ago, a new call for a public tender for auditing companies was made to review Petroperú’s financial statements. This after the timely signing of the contract with the auditing company that was previously authorized was not achieved due to disagreements with the state company, in relation to the conditions and terms of the services.

On this last point, the Comptroller General of the Republic made it clear that the “legal or financial consequences caused by the timely non-signing of the contract, are the exclusive responsibility of Petroperú, for which we express our concern about the consequences that this situation has been generating. regarding a state company that is in the interest of all Peruvians, and we call on the competent authorities to look at this situation with the utmost interest and avoid harm to the country.”
