The Dairy Committee of the National Society of Industries was against the possible modification of the Regulation of Milk and Dairy Products to limit the use of powdered milk. He stated that it would impact the economy and the nutrition of Peruvian families.
“The attempt to ban the use of high-quality powdered milk for the production of evaporated milk is a populist measure that threatens family nutrition,” he said in a statement.
In this sense, he argued that it is through the use of powdered milk that it is possible to cover the deficit in the production of quality national raw milk. “The production of national raw milk barely covers 71% of the national demand. If the milk deficit cannot be covered, prices for consumers will increase,” he added.
Likewise, the union argued that in the face of this deficit, “Peru is forced to import powdered milk of the highest quality and safety”, necessary for the production of evaporated milk, the country’s main dairy product.
Finally, he called on the members of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation “to work together in the development of the national dairy chain without harming consumers, investments and family nutrition.”
