Lambayeque: 5,000 dairy farmers affected by the sale price of fresh milk

A average of 5,000 ranchers Lambayeque dairy farmers have been affected by the low prices they receive per liter of fresh milk. Given this scenario, as in other regions, these producers have joined the national strike called for this March 15.

A representative group mobilized along the Panamericana Norte to express their dissatisfied by the moment that his sector is going through. They, among their requests, consider that a fair price should be paid for milk; Likewise, they request the intervention of the State for what they consider business monopoly, and the proper denomination of evaporated milk.

Celso Hernández, representative of dairy farmers in the region, presented their demands. “We want evaporated milk to be made, but from pure cow’s milk. We don’t want powdered milk. No to recombination. Unfortunately, Peru is dominated by three companies; they pay the price, they are judge and party and they punish the ranchers”, he told the press.

He also said that they currently receive payment of S/ 1.06 per liter of fresh milk and demand that this increase to S/ 1.80, since companies pay up to S/ 2 per liter of powdered milk. “Inputs have risen by 70%, we no longer give more. A concentrate for the cows was at S / 56, now it is S / 84. Milk in jars has risen, but fresh milk has not”, she sentenced.

Hernández hopes that the representatives of the Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep) reach an agreement with the authorities of the central government.
