Midagri presents decree to make changes to the milk regulation

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that, in response to the demands presented by the Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep), it presented a supreme decree that modifies the Milk Regulation, in order to meet the demands dairy farmers and taking into account the opinion of the competent sectors.

He pointed out that the aim is to strengthen the milk value chain and guarantee food safety.

It should be noted that the livestock farmers’ unions called a strike for this Tuesday, March 15, in which they ask that the milk regulation be modified so that they are governed by the FDA code, which provides that the evaporated milk It is made only with fluid or cow’s milk.

And it is that, according to Nivia Vargas, president of Agalep, in 2017 changes were made to abide by the Codex Alimentarius, which allows the use of powdered milk.

Farmers also receive a fairer payment for the milk they sell to the dairy industry, since they are paid S/ 1.06 per liter and ask for it to be S/ 1.80, given the rise in production costs.

Midagri added that, in relation to the request of the Executive Board of Milk, the approval of the resolution for the creation of said space for dialogue with the participation of the competent sectors and the representation of the producers’ unions and of the dairy industry.
