The year-on-year rate of inflation in the United States in February reached 7.9%, that is, 0.8% over what was registered in January. The increase was driven by rising energy prices following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
February inflation is the highest recorded in nearly 40 years (since 1982), the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
In the last month, energy prices (which include gasoline, crude oil, electricity and natural gas) grew by 25.6%, led by the price of crude oil which expanded by 43.6% year-on-year, while gas rose by 23.8%.
Food prices, for their part, rose by 7.9%, especially those related to purchases in the supermarket, which increased by 8.6%, while those of food in restaurants rose by 6.8%.
