Informality, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, reached 82.3% in the south; according to the president of the National Society of Industries (SNI)Ricardo Marquez Flores.
Furthermore, participation in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was reduced and dropped to third place, after Lima and the north. The southern regions contribute 14.4%, while the north 19.6% and Lima 52.9%. This is due to the lack of private investment in the regions, Márquez Flores said.
The representative of the industrial union pointed out that one way for Arequipa to come out of improduction is the reactivation of the Majes Siguas II project. “It’s a good sign. We know that the signing of addendum 13 has already been approved and we anticipate that in 5 years the Mistiana region will be the first with the most middle class in the entire country. People may not understand it, but the project will help revive the economy, both during its construction and when it begins to operate, ”he argued.
Another way to revive the economy is to listen to representatives from various sectors. Yesterday, the SNI installed the second Macroregional Executive Table in Arequipa at the San Pablo Catholic University. Its objective is to receive proposals from entrepreneurs from various sectors, such as manufacturing and services, to see how to generate more jobs.
Other similar tables will be held in Chiclayo and Pucallpa until May. And on June 8 and 9, the “Industry Week 2022” will be held to collect all the proposals and present them to the national and regional authorities. “Before we sent the proposals, unfortunately the constant change of ministers makes it impossible to implement them. We hope that the governors can take them into account to grow the economy of their regions,” said Márquez Flores.
