Petroperú: Hugo Chávez Arévalo proposes to the Government to create another state company for the massification of gas

Petroleos del Peru – Petroperú SA He proposed the creation of a new state company (or, failing that, a division of the state oil company) to be in charge of expanding natural gas from Camisea.

Through an interview with the newspaper El Sombrero, the general manager of Petroperú, Hugo Chávez Arévalo, revealed that, at the request of the Executive for Petroperú to be in charge of the construction of gas pipelines, the state oil company has requested the creation of a “corporate company through a holding company”.

“We have asked the Executive that Petroperú can be divided or in any case create a corporate company through a holding company, since they have commissioned us to massify gas,” said the official.

In the opinion of Chávez Arévalo, the financial statements of the Petroperú business unit cannot be mixed with the expenses that would be involved in installing the new gas pipelines in the interior of the country.

“We have to create a company that is a massifier of gas because we cannot mix financial statements. Each company must have its financial statements and its business unit, ”he explained.

“And now that we have entered the exploitation of lots 1, 64 and 192, they are managed through a company that is also an exploration and exploitation company,” he added.

As it is recalled, the participation of Petroperú in the massification of natural gas, by virtue of its experience in the sector, had taken a special role in recent years, after the private sector had resisted for more than a decade to carry out the mega-work, as was the case of the Seven Regions project. To this was added the stoppage of the Odebrecht South Peruvian Gas Pipeline, due to cases of corruption.

This week, the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress also approved the modified prediction of Bill 679, which allows the use of the Energy Security System (SISE) and expand the resources of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) for the development of gas massification projects. The amendment gives the private sector priority over Petroperú during this process.
