Anertz Muniategigeneral director of the National Association of Shipowners of Freezer Tuna Vessels-ANABAC, assured today that the rise in diesel prices has made the activity of these ships “completely uneconomical”.

The representative of the collective that integrates three groups of shipowners with a total of 21 freezer tuna vessels He recalled that the Italian fleet has already decreed a stoppage of activity and considered that the same thing will happen in Spain in the entire fishing sector if measures are not adopted.

Muniategi has affirmed that the situation that has caused the increase in the price of fuel is “complex, because there is no certainty about the prices”, that “they escalate exponentially and absurdly” and they are barely maintained for 30 minutes in the sector.

As he explained, last week the suppliers sued the owners of these ships 1070 euros per thousand liters of dieselwhen a freezer tuna vessel needs 500,000 liters or moreso the sale of the fish does not allow the cost to be offset.
