Women’s Day: 63% of Peruvians lead a business

Peruvian entrepreneurship is one of the main responsible for the development and economic boost of the country. According to a study carried out by Activa Peru, 40% of Peruvians decided to start their own business between 2020 and 2021. The Ministry of Production (Produce) ensures that there are more than 1.3 million micro, small and medium enterprises led by women, who are generating 4.8 million jobs in the country. According to a study by the Lima Chamber of Commerce, 15% of women started their business operations between the ages of 18 and 25; while 40% did it between 16 and 30 years old, 35% did it between 31 and 40 years old and only 5% is between 41 and 55 years old.

Given this, they have highlighted that social networks and the digital ecosystem have been great allies to promote their micro or small businesses, especially during the pandemic. 15% of women entrepreneurs said that social networks represent 10% of their monthly sales, according to Favo, commerce startup. However, more and more micro or small entrepreneurs need more support in digital marketing training, finance, accounting, among others, to keep up to date with new trends.

Fighting the gender gap through entrepreneurship
