Tapia: “If the price escalation continues, there are electro-intensive companies in the CAV that will have to stop”

The Minister for Economic Development has asked the EU for urgent and forceful measures to deal with the energy crisis due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, has assured that there are electro-intensive companies in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) that need a lot of electricity and gas to start up, that “they cannot bear these prices of energy and that as the escalation of prices continues, they will be forced to stop”.

“We are facing an unknown situation in terms of the escalation in energy prices that affects the Basque Country and the rest of Europe, therefore it is an energy emergency situation that we have to face together and that is why we need to address it from the EU urgent and forceful measures”, said the counselor at the press conference after the meeting of the Governing Council.

In this sense, Tapia has stated that “if we were able to establish exceptional measures at the time of a health crisis like that of covid, we have to be able to do so at this time of energy crisis, when Europe is responding in a more united than ever to the crisis that is taking place to the invasion by Russia in the Ukraine”.
