UK to inject $100 million into Ukraine’s economy

The Government of the United Kingdom announced that it will inject US$100 million into the Ukrainian economy to mitigate the financial pressures caused by the invasion of the Russian Army.

The funds may be used to defray salaries in the public sector, allow critical state functions to continue to operate, as well as to meet social security and pension expenses, Downing Street, Johnson’s official office, said in a statement. Likewise, the British Executive has detailed that the concession will be carried out through the world Bank.

This announcement comes before the Prime Ministers of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, visit London on Monday.

Johnson will speak with them to “continue leading the international response” to the war in Ukraine, first in two separate bilateral meetings and later in a trilateral meeting, his official spokesman said.

The leaders will visit a base of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom (RAF, in English) and will offer a joint press conference in Downing Street.

“Since Russia’s brutal and illegal assault began, we have seen the world rise up in solidarity with the untamed people of Ukraine,” Johnson said in a statement.

“The United Kingdom stands ready to help those who need it most, offering essential supplies and medical support,” added the British head of government.

Only Russian President Vladimir Putin “can completely end the suffering in Ukraine,” Johnson added, but “The new funding will continue to help those facing a deteriorating humanitarian situation.”, he added.

The funds announced today add to the 220 million pounds (266 million euros) that the United Kingdom has already dedicated to collaborating with Kiev.
