Works at the Chancay port terminal are 30% complete

The works for the construction of the Chancay port terminal have a 30% advance in earthworksas confirmed by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, and the new head of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), Nicolás Bustamante, this past Saturday, March 5, during a supervision of the project from Huaral.

The site will become one of the main gateways from Asia to Peru and a complement to the port of Callao for container cargo (bulk and rolling) to “redistribute to other nearby countries such as Chile, Ecuador and Colombia,” said the leader of the TCM.

“This visit makes it possible to highlight the will of the Executive to strengthen private investment. With international capital, megaprojects like this and many more works can be built. For our part, the commitment remains to continue working”, indicated Bustamante.

The project will have three major components. One is the port operational area, where port activities will be carried out. Another is the entry complex and includes the vehicular outpost, entry gates, customs inspection area, administrative offices, and logistics and support service areas. A third component is the tunnel.

To date, the tunnel that connects the entrance complex with the port operating zone has drilled 79 meters in rock in the operating zone and 28 meters on the entrance side. The works are in charge of the company Cosco Shipping, in charge of the work, in coordination with the MTC. Excavation is expected to be completed in a year.

The passageway will be 1.8 kilometers long and will be part of a segregated and exclusive road corridor for cargo traffic related to port operations. It will have three vehicular lanes, two conveyor belts for solid bulk and pipelines for liquid bulk.

The project will generate 1,500 direct jobs. The investment of the same in its first stage amounts to US$ 1,213 million (excluding VAT), while in its final conception it will exceed US$ 3,600.
