Armed Forces personnel will provide protection to oil workers, as well as to the infrastructure of the country’s hydrocarbon system. For this purpose, the manager of Petroecuador, Ítalo Cedeño, and the Minister of National Defense, Luis Fernández, signed an agreement that will be valid until 2023.
The agreement unifies the agreements that Petroecuador and the former Petroamazonas had separately, before the merger.
“With this updated and unified legal instrument, the company’s personnel and the infrastructure of the entire value chain in charge of Petroecuador in exploration and production, transportation, refining, national marketing and international trade, which are located in 22 provinces, are protected.” Cedeno highlighted.
The facilities that the state company has include oil pipelines, pipelines, terminals, refineries and more than 1,500 oil wells, added the manager, who stressed that the military presence will help prevent possible threats and illegal acts in the development of activities.
As part of the agreement, Petroecuador will invest $10 million annually that will be delivered to the Armed Forces. The execution of the resources will be in charge of the Ministry of Defense, the Logistics Directorate of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and the Physical Security Headquarters of the public company.
