The demonstration also wanted to value the figure of people who work in the primary sector as “essential” in society.
More than 200 tractors have traveled this Thursday the streets of the center of Pamplona to ask “respect” for the rural world in general and to the primary sector in particular and to value the figure of the people who work in agriculture and livestock as “essential” professionals in society and as food providers.
The tractors have gathered on Sadar street in Pamplona, in front of the Osasuna stadium, and preceded by a banner with the slogan “Without farmers and ranchers, who will feed you tomorrow?” They have toured Zaragoza Avenue, Plaza Príncipe de Viana and Plaza de las Merindades, where 40 tractors have been authorized access.
Some tractors have carried flags of the UAGN and EHNE-Nafarroa agrarian unions and protest posters.
Later, from González Tablas street, in front of the headquarters of the Department of Rural Development, a demonstration headed by a banner with the slogan “Together for the countryside”, marched through Paulino Caballero, San Fermín and Carlos streets. III, to finish in the Plaza de las Merindades, in front of the Government Delegation.
Leaders of UAGN and EHNE have registered a letter in the Government Delegation with their main demands.
The president of the UAGN, Félix Bariáin, explained that the main reason for this mobilization is “ask for respect for a sector that is having a hard time, that is the victim of pejorative and negative debates from any level of society and the political class, and that cannot be tolerated”.
Bariáin has pointed out that, “with the Ukrainian conflict, in which the food sovereignty across EuropeI believe that it is the moment to act, the moment to put the women and men who are in the Navarrese countryside first”.
He also commented that, “beyond all that, we also remember the fiscal policywhich is the most damaging in the entire state”.
This situation, he added, “I think that we people who are in the Navarrese countryside do not deserve it, because among other things we generate food, we maintain the environment and we maintain a fundamental thing, that the peoples are alive”.
