The Mercedes plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz will only work three days next week due to the lack of chips, which will arrive at the company next Tuesday. Since this Monday the production remains stopped.
As communicated this Thursday by the management of the multinational plant to the workers’ representation this coming Monday and Tuesday production will stop due to lack of material. The activity in the three production shifts will resume on Wednesday, so only three days will be worked next week.
These two new days of break are added to the suspension of activity throughout this week due to the critical situation of the supply chain derived from the lack of availability in the semiconductor market.
Although the company’s management had provided for the possibility of working on Saturdays March 12, 19 and 26 to recover the lost production, at least the first of them will not finally be activated.
The lack of semiconductor supply It has caused various stoppages in production last year in the largest company in the Basque Country that directly employs some 5,000 people.
The last important stop took place at the end of last year, from December 17 to January 3. The objective was to collect parts due to the lack of regularity in the supply of chips.
