“It seems that we have conflicting objectives, since our intention is to put the Public School in the center”, said Steilas.
Before the deadline for submitting amendments to the draft of the educational agreement of the Basque Autonomous Community, the Steilas union has wanted to make its contributions, because it hopes that it will be a participatory process.
In a press conference, they made it clear that the education system needs “go one step further”. “Unfortunately, it is clear that we have different intentions. Our goal is to centralize public school. In other words, with public education as a base, we find it difficult to favor the interests of the concerted centers, so we have competing interests“, have pointed.
In addition, they have remembered that it has been the “duality” the reason why “we are in this critical situation”. “If that is not understood, there will continue to be social differences. No agreement is needed for that,” they said.
On the other hand, they believe that the document it is imprecise, so it does not serve as a starting point. “It is not programmatic, it does not correct anything in the current situation,” they have detailed.
Thus, Steilas has been convinced that it is necessary to do some changes and improve the working conditions of the teaching staff.
Finally, they have criticized that the agreement “falls short” in terms of the importance given to Basque.
