The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Oscar Zea, announced that in the next 15 days his office would present 10 supreme decrees to promote the second agrarian reform and care measures for small rural producers.
“One of the measures is the creation of a water fund for our basin headwaters, in order to carry out the corresponding maintenance in the high areas. And so the beneficiaries can obtain a fair payment for their attention”, said the official in the framework of the Regional Agrarian Summit in Madre de Dios.
During the event, Minister Oscar Zea ratified the Government’s commitment to prioritize agriculture, along with health and education. “We are committed to directing the second agrarian reform for all. Small, medium and large exporters will be part of this reform process; We must include all producers, men and women from the countryside of the coast, mountains and jungle, and we cannot exclude anyone,” he stressed.
At another point in his presentation, the official said that one of the main objectives of his administration at the head of Midagri will be to promote not only family farming producers, but also small family farmers in the country.
In this line, he announced that one of the central measures will be the repopulation of cattle through genetic improvement, with which small breeders will have the technical assistance of the General Directorate of Livestock and the special projects of the ministry.
“We are going to move aggressively and firmly towards genetic improvement and reach international standards so that our cattle breeders can count on high-quality genetics, coming from Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia, which have high rates of production of milk, meat, among others”, he stressed.
He added that the livestock repopulation will also have the support of INIA and the provision of straws and technical assistance. “The cattle repopulation will be a reality in the mountains; We are going to bring quality American bellies to boost our small family farm. In this second agrarian reform no one can be excluded; we must all work together”, he remarked.
It is important to remember that the head of Midagri pointed out that they are going to work hand in hand with small farmers to bring what they produce and cultivate to the markets, but in exchange for tax incentives according to the percentage of production.
