After almost 5 hours of a controversial debate where there were exchanges of words between the councilors, the plenary session of the Regional Council of Arequipa (CRA) made a decision regarding addendum 13 of the Majes Siguas II project.
With a tight vote and the casting vote of the president of the Regional Council, José Luis Hancco, the signing of the document was approved with the support of six members.
Initially, the counselors who they voted against of the subscription were Ysrael Zúñiga, Edy Medina, Elmer Pinto, Crhiss Díaz and José Luis Hancco. In favor Herbert Zúñiga, Silvio Arias, Miguel Guzmán, Gloria Salas and Veto Bernal were present.
However, Hancco asked for an intermission room. When the session resumed he changed his vote and joined the approval group. For this reason, the vote was 4 against and 6 for.
Addendum 13 is an important step to reactivate the project agribusiness stopped four years ago. It proposes a technological change that will cost US$ 104 million to modify the irrigation systemfrom open channels to pressurized pipes.
