The Executive, through RS No. 005-2022-EF, appointed the former Minister of Economy and Finance, Waldo Mendoza, as a member of the Fiscal Council, for a period of four years.
“This Supreme Resolution is endorsed by the Minister of Economy and Finance”, states the rule published today in the newspaper El Peruano.
Waldo Mendoza served as head of the Economy and Finance portfolio between November 18, 2020 and July 28, 2021, during the transitional government of Francisco Sagasti.
The now member of the Fiscal Council has a degree in economics from the Universidad Nacional San Cristóbal de Huamanga and a master’s and doctorate in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).
In the public sector, Mendoza was also part of the board of directors of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), was director of economic and social affairs (2002-2005) and vice minister of Finance (2005-2006) in the Ministry of Economy and Finance. .

The Fiscal Council is an autonomous and technical commission of the public sector, which strengthens the transparency and institutionality of public finances, through the analysis and monitoring of fiscal policies, their consistency with the economic cycle and fiscal sustainability.
The Fiscal Council issues a non-binding opinion through reports, on the following matters:
- The modification and compliance with the macro-fiscal rules and the fiscal rules of the Regional Governments and local Governments.
- The macroeconomic projections contemplated in the Multiannual Macroeconomic Framework.
- The evolution of public finances in the short, medium and long term.
- The methodology for calculating the structural fiscal result.
