The National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) denounced that there is little interest on the part of the government to dissipate the protests at Station 5 of Petroperú, which paralyzed the operations of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), and in the Corredor Vial Sur, in the province of Cotabambas – Apurímac, of the mining project The Bambas.
Through a statement, the head of the SNMPE, Pablo de la Flor, said that different operations and projects of the mining and hydrocarbon industry installed in various regions are subject to force measures such as illegal occupations of facilities, road blockades. communication and harassment actions.
“We reject that minority groups intend to institutionalize violent and illegal action as a pressure mechanism, undermining the rule of law and the social peace that we need to overcome the serious economic and health crisis that is hitting the country,” said De la Flor.
SNMPE: Loreto is out of power
In the case of the seizure of Petroperú Station 5, he explained that said plant has been illegally occupied for 21 days by countless people, who even carry out reckless actions around the tanks that store oil.
“This measure of force has paralyzed the operations of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), since Station 5 is the central axis for the activities of this infrastructure, through which all the production of the Loreto oil circuit is transferred to the Terminal de Bayóvar ”, emphasized the head of the SNMPE.
Likewise, it indicated that, as a consequence of this illegal occupation, the Félix Flores village, located in the Manseriche district – Loreto region, has stopped having the electricity and drinking water services that Petroperú supplied free of charge.
SNMPE: talk for Las Bambas
On the other hand, he pointed out that a new blockade in the South Road Corridor, in the province of Cotabambas – Apurímac, which began last Monday, October 18, has once again put in check the continuity of the Las Bambas mine operations.
“The situation is critical in Las Bambas and in the next few days the mine will be completely shut down, which contributes 16% of the national copper production and employs more than 8 thousand workers and suppliers,” he explained.
With this interruption of the public roads, there have been more than 60 days of blockade so far this year, affecting the transport of concentrate, supplies, as well as the process of relief of the workers of the mining operation.
