The energy megaproject to bring natural gas to the Southern Macro Region will be resumed by the current Government, announced the president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez.
The Gasoducto Sur Peruano (GSP) project was paralyzed in January 2017 when it was 35% complete. The consortium that led Odebrecht was unable to obtain the required financing. The revelations about the corruption plot carried out by Brazilian companies, led by Odebrecht, they stopped the involvement of the banks in this work.
“We want to contribute to a greater redistribution of the benefits of economic growth with projects such as the culmination of the South Gas Pipeline that our government will make a reality, “said Prime Minister Vásquez during her inauguration speech in Congress.
He also specified that Peruvian gas should serve as a priority so that households —Especially those located in the southern Andes — have access to cleaner and cheaper energy.
Vásquez recalled that the Government formed the multisectoral commission that will study the situation of natural gas in Peru, in order to evaluate the expansion of reserves, the development of infrastructure in various regions of Peru and the mechanisms that allow the massification of this resource.
From Bagua, yesterday President Pedro Castillo called Congress to work together on a law on the nationalization of Camisea gas so that it benefits all Peruvians.
