The members of the Regional Council of Arequipa (CRA) will finally decide whether or not Governor Kimmerlee Gutiérrez signs Addendum 13 for Majes Siguas II. The president of the plenary session, José Luis Hancco, confirmed that he will summon extraordinary session this Friday, February 25 to discuss the topic. The Agriculture Commission of the CRA, presented two opinions. The majority, which proposes not to subscribe to the “technological change”, belongs to the directors Elmer Pinto and Edy Medina. And the minority of Harberth Zúñiga that urges to approve it.
to Medina there are no new circumstances to modify the project. On the other hand, Zúñiga indicates that there are reasons to sign addendum 13, such as guaranteeing the resource to irrigate the 38,500 hectares.
Medina noted that if the CRA does not approve Addendum 13, the project must be reactivated with the current contract (Single Ordered Text).
Finally, the president of the CRA, José Luis Hancco, pointed out that a simple majority is necessary for one of the options to win. There are 10 councilors who would attend, therefore, 6 votes are needed. If you are not satisfied with the decision, five councilors can request a reconsideration of the agreement for a new debate.
