According to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), Peru registered the largest annual increase in non-traditional exports in 2021, advancing by 28.2%, followed by Colombia with a growth of 26.1% and Brazil with 25.5%.
The issuing entity pointed out that in the last five years, 2016-2021, Peru leads the growth of non-traditional exports in the countries of the region, with an average annual rate of 8.7%. This result is explained by the larger shipments of agricultural products (mainly fruits), textiles, chemicals, fishing and iron and steel.
In monthly terms, non-traditional exports amounted to US$ 1,804 million in December 2021, higher by 30.5% and 25.5% compared to December 2019 and 2020, respectively, highlighting foreign sales of fresh grapes, which they grew 42.9% compared to December 2019 (18.5% annual); and blueberries, which did so by 5.4% compared to the same month two years ago (37.3%), among other products.
On the other hand, traditional exports totaled a record US$46,541 million in 2021, a growth of 55.1% compared to the previous year and 36.8% compared to 2019.
