Teachers and farmers protest fuel fixation in El Limonal

The union rejects the policy and management of President Guillermo Lasso regarding the fixing and freezing of fuels.

A “day of struggle and resistance” is the one carried out by farmers and peasants who from very early on concentrated in various parts of the Guayas province, such as Santa Lucía and Limonal.

The union rejects the policy and management of President Guillermo Lasso regarding the setting and freezing of prices for diesel and extra gasoline and eco-country.

The values were as follows, according to executive decree 230: extra and ecopaís at $ 2.55, before it was at $ 2.50 a gallon; and diesel increased by $ 0.21, reaching $ 1.90.

Luis Pilalot, national coordinator of the National Federation of Rural Social Security Insured (Feunassc), indicated that about 10,000 participate in the day in the provinces of Los Ríos, El Oro, Zamora Chinchipe, Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Esmeraldas, Pichincha, Imbabura , among others.

Pilalot affirmed that the main motivation for the protest is that decrees 230 and 231 were repealed. He proposed that fuels return to June values. In that month the values were: extra and ecopaís at $ 2.19 per gallon and diesel at $ 1.52.

“At least those prices there to enter into a process of dialogue with the Government, which is frozen at those prices, not those that are now,” he said.

The leader also clarified that Richard Intriago and who yesterday reached an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, does not represent them.

“That on behalf of all farmers comes to negotiate, comes to have commitments and those producers reject them. Intriago represents a sector of the rice growers, but the name should not be taken or to say that it represents all the producers in the country ”, he declared.

During the protest in Limonal, Camilo Medina, a professor at the National Union of Educators, was detained, according to one of the producers.

More mobilizations are planned starting at 4:00 p.m. In Guayaquil it will begin in the Centennial Park; and in Quito, the concentration will go to the historic center.

The protests are carried out within the framework of a division of the agricultural sector. Yesterday, the National Peasant Movement decided not to participate in the demonstrations after reaching a series of agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Between these they agreed to deliver the Storage Unit to the Guayas and Los Ríos union; the creation of 500 bio-factories of organic fertilizers of high scientific level that allow the production costs to be reduced by up to 50% for the producers; among others.

While the peasants promised to create a brigade to accompany the governors and mayors to the price control operations. (I)
