Work on line 5 of the Bilbao Metro, which will take the underground to Galdakao Hospital, will begin in October.
The Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia will pay 50% of the 360 million euros that the infrastructure will cost, without waiting for the possible arrival of European funds.
Both institutions plan to sign a financing agreement in May. As planned, that same month Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) will tender the first two sections of the project and in August the works that will start in October will be awarded.
If the deadlines are met, the metro will arrive in Galdakao in 2027 and two years later at the hospital.
