Mirtha Vásquez confirms that the Executive will present a proposal for a comprehensive pension reform

The Government will present a proposal for the comprehensive pension reform, as confirmed by the President of the Council of Ministers Mirtha Vasquez during his presentation before the Congress of the Republic to request the confidence vote for the cabinet.

In that sense, he indicated that while they are preparing the pension reform proposal, they will expand the coverage of the state Pension 65 program.

“A better distribution of economic growth must also imply that our older adults benefit from it. In this sense, while we are preparing a comprehensive reform proposal for the ONP and the AFPs, our goal is to increase the coverage of Pension 65 as a public pillar of a national pension system that responds to the needs of the majority ”, said the premier.

It should be noted that the Government of Pedro Castillo earlier announced the creation of a new National Commission of the National Pension System, made up of the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and the pensioners, according to the former head of the PCM Guido Bellido on August 26.

In figures from the Executive, currently only 27% of adults over 65 receive a contributory pension, including the public and private regimes. If the impact of the Pensión 65 program and other regimes is added, the level of coverage rises to 48.7%, a figure very far from the regional average of 70.8%

Likewise, of the total EAP, 30% are not affiliated with any pension system; that is to say, almost 5 and a half million Peruvians will not receive any pension in old age. And 41% who, despite being affiliated, do not contribute, which means that more than 7 million people will not receive a sufficient pension when they retire.
