Dollar in Peru: Exchange rate rises at the end of the week and stands at S/ 3.75

The dollar closed the week higher and stood at S/ 3,750 at 13:30 pm on Friday, February 18, which meant an increase of 0.62% compared to the previous day, in which it had a value of S/ 3,727, according to the report of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

Gianina Villavicencio, Manager of Foreign Exchange Brokerage at Renta 4 SAB Peru, explained that during the day, the supply flow came from offshore market, while the demand came from local banks generating positions. Thus, US$ 370 million were traded in the market at an average price of S/ 3.7181. Likewise, today the BCRP intervened with a direct sale of US$ 14 million at an exchange rate of S/ 3.7500, additionally foreign exchange swaps were placed for S/ 200 million at 6 months.

Meanwhile, the parallel exchange rate was between S/ 3,715 for purchase and S/ 3,755 for sale. While, in the main banks of the country, the refuge currency reached S/ 3,703 and S/ 3,723, the purchase and sale; respectively.

According to Bloomberg, the Peruvian sol was the second currency that depreciated the most in the region during the day (0.62%). So far in 2022, the US currency has fallen by 6.35%.

“Globally, the dollar rebounds as expectations of a diplomatic settlement of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine are dissipating,” Villavicencio notes.
