The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Roberto Sánchez, estimates that, until December 2022, the Meeting Tourism segment in the Peru could generate business that would border on S/ 42,758,000, thanks to the arrival of speakers and attendees to the 35 international congresses and meetings confirmed in our country, projecting the presence of 16,600 participants.
“The recovery of Meeting Tourism is of vital importance and will be progressive. This year there are important signs of recovery, appreciating some trends, such as the organization of hybrid and face-to-face events with greater capacity and complying with biosafety protocols, “said the head of Mincetur.
This is due to the fact that Peru has a first class infrastructure that is very suitable for this tourist segment. The geographical position makes Lima a natural hub for airlines, in addition, Lima is the second meeting destination in South America according to the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking, which measures each country as host of meetings each year. Lima, Arequipa and Cusco are the destinations that will also receive important events this year.
In addition, Promperú is the Mincetur specialized entity that promotes meeting tourism. With the new normality, the advances made in the adaptation of services are important, especially in the areas of food and beverages in hotels. The agreements to promote this initiative, between the member countries of the Pacific Alliance, already translate into positive results.
Proposal
The head of Mincetur pointed out that, during 2022, from his office and Promperú, the value proposition will be strengthened based on sustainable meetings and events, and the development of Meeting Tourism will be deepened from all regions of the country, prioritizing Cusco, ArequipaPiura, Lima, La Libertad, Ica, Loreto, Lambayeque, Tacna and San Martin.
“This year the tourism strategy that we carry out is based on three strategic lines that are: promotion, recruitment and professionalization. In addition, national meetings are being reinforced as the engine of economic reactivation. For this, constant articulation is sought and we work together with all the actors in the tourism value chain,” said Minister Sánchez, who finally mentioned “we are proactive. Therefore, we will propose to the Executive to put in optimal conditions the management of the Lima Convention Center, located in the district of San Borgiato improve the offer and income in the meeting tourism sector in the period 2022-2026″, he asserted.
