Customs experiences drop in services due to a ‘technological infrastructure problem’

A “technological infrastructure problem” keeps several functions of the National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae) suspended, which would have even affected the entity’s emails.

The Senae informed at 09:30 this Wednesday, through its Twitter account, that the following are suspended: Ecuapass, the Ecuadorian Single Window, the Service Desk and the institutional website.

The drop in services has generated long columns of trucks seeking to enter the Guayaquil Seaport.

From the Ecuadorian Business Committee (CEE) it was reported that, after a meeting with Carola Ríos, general director of Senae, it was learned that the incident occurred in the server room of the institution.

How can institutions and citizens in Ecuador avoid being hacked?

“It is not a damage to computer equipment or servers, but a problem in the cooling equipment (air conditioners) that is necessary for the equipment to work. The operation of a new equipment that cools the space is being coordinated, which will allow ECUAPASS to be put back into operation (probably 6-8 hours)”, specified the CEE, which reported that they are ready to channel any urgent issue with the authorities already support in overcoming the event.

It was indicated that alternative solutions are currently being sought and that operational exits will be implemented for urgent cases.

“It is essential that this incident serve to establish contingency mechanisms that allow this type of situation to be avoided in the future,” the CEE said in a statement on its Twitter account.
