The Basque Country closed 2021 with a 15.8% increase in home sales, the highest number since 2011

The Basque Country registered the sale of 20,701 homes in 2021, a figure that had not been reached in the autonomous community for a decade but, despite this increase, it was the autonomous community with the lowest year-on-year increase, 15.8%, half that the national average, according to data made public this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

This amount is higher than the sales of flats in 2020, a year marked by the start of the pandemic, when 17,352 homes were sold in the Basque Country, but it also exceeds the figure for 2019, before the appearance of the coronavirus (19,572) .

In fact, you have to go back to 2011 to find a higher figure than last year. A decade ago, up to 30,772 sales of flats were made in the Basque Country.

Specifically, over the course of last year, 20,701 home sales transactions were carried out in the Basque Autonomous Community, of which 1,665 corresponded to subsidized housing. Overall, the majority, 17,246, occurred in the second-hand housing market, compared to 3,455 new home sales.

Regarding the last month of the year, the number of home sales stood at 1,602, 11.3% more than in December 2020, which is 21 points less than the state average (32.9%) . Of the total operations, 1,458 are for free housing and 144 for protected housing. In addition, the new housing market registered 213 purchases and the used one 1,389.

Despite everything, the Basque Country was in the tail in 2021 in the increase in this type of real estate operations. In Spain as a whole, the sale of homes registered a record growth of 34.6% in 2021 compared to the previous year, to a total of 565,523 operations, the highest number of transactions since 2007, when more than 775 transactions were carried out. 000 sales.
